Maths Mastery KS 2: Bringing Fractions and Decimals to Life in Key Stage 2

Using the ‘Concrete -Pictorial- Abstract’ approach to help teach fractions with understanding and application

  • Show children the many ways we use fractions in our everyday lives; food labels, recipes, temperature, measurement and more!
  • Use the highly effective ‘Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract’ approach to reveal the mathematical structures underpinning problems involving fractions
  • Connect fractions to multiplication, division and measures
  • Plan using new innovative tools: the ‘Maths Sandwich’ and  ‘Medium-Term Planning Map’ to create true ‘Mastery’ in fractions
  • Teach for variation ensuring fractions are applied across the whole maths curriculum to embed understanding and skills
