Mastery in the EYFS and Key Stage 1: Moving From Counting to Calculating


Teaching number concepts in ways that allow EVERY child to develop genuine fluency. Moving away from counting to efficient use of part/whole and derived facts to improve mental calculation.


  • Using daily subitizing routines to develop ‘part/whole concept and get every child engaged in developing true number sense
  • Use ‘ten frames’ to allow children to experience and understand place value from the start
  • Develop crucial ‘concept images’ of number enabling children to learn and use number facts with fluency and easy
  • Use the highly effective  ‘Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract’ approach with our youngest children in a developmentally appropriate way and watch their mathematical minds develop in ways we could have never imagined!
