Greater Depth for All: Using the ‘Maths Sandwich’ Approach to Problem Solving in Key Stage 2

Giving Children Meaningful Reasons to Learn Maths

NCETM-accredited 3 half-day sessions to effectively support in-class action

Northamptonshire:  Starts 11th November 2019  1:30pm-4:30pm  Booking details below

What is the ‘Maths Sandwich’ and how will it help you plan brilliant learning in maths?

The ‘Maths Sandwich’ always begins with a meaningful and engaging anchor task or hook (first piece of bread), it then strips away the context to reveal the maths skills children need to learn and improve (the filling). Finally it makes sure children can apply their newly sharpened skills so they see the progress they’ve firstly made and secondly realise that these skills can be applied to a wide range of problems (the second piece of bread).

‘Thanks Karen! Once again you’ve left me inspired and buzzing with ideas that I’m eager to implement back in class!’

L Ince, Deputy Head and Maths Lead
